The FTX Recovery Trust confirmed in July 2026 that it will distribute a further $900 million to creditors, adding to what is already one of the largest recoveries in crypto bankruptcy history.

The distribution is part of a plan that has now returned well over 100 cents on the dollar to many customer claims when valued at petition-date prices, thanks to appreciation in recovered crypto holdings and successful clawbacks.

A muted pardon push

Separately, a lobbying effort seeking clemency for founder Sam Bankman-Fried lost visible support, with lawmakers and industry figures declining to endorse the campaign. For a sector still repairing its reputation, the mechanical grind of returning money to victims has done more than any speech to rebuild trust.

Recovery, measured honestly

Dollar-denominated recoveries look strong because claims were fixed at petition-date prices. Creditors who held crypto have watched the asset outperform their claim, which is a real loss even in a successful estate.

The estate's outcome is nonetheless far better than early estimates. Both statements are true, and only one usually makes the headline.
